What does an Intercessory Missionary do?
At IHOP-KC being an Intercessory Missionary means my “work” hours are spent both in the IHOP-KC Prayer Room and serving around the IHOP-KC Missions Base. Each full time staff member commits to spend 24 plus hours per week in the prayer room and 24 hours working with a specific department. As a full time staff member I currently do most of my 30 prayer room hours in the evenings and serve the Student Ministries Department with my admin hours.
Why did you decide to become an Intercessory Missionary?
After moving to Kansas City to work with an internship at the House of Prayer I found that this was what I was made to do. I honestly didn’t know what an Intercessory Missionary was when I moved here but have since discovered a small drop of the eternal glory of Intercession. I may do a lot of different things with my life but I was made to be an intercessor forever.
As a missionary do you raise support?
Yes, I raise support to be a full time missionary.
Why don’t you get paid if you are on staff?
All staff members at IHOP-KC raise support as missionaries. This is a successful model used by Youth With A Mission (YWAM) and Campus Crusade for Christ. I personally believe that there is a deeper work God is desiring to do through partnership in the realm of giving. As Paul wrote in Philippians 4:17 “Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account.”
